On May 1, 2025, the Whittier Police Department attended the annual "Stepping In" Mental Health Conference, hosted by College Hospitals and the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health, in the city of Norwalk. During this conference, Officer Amalie Figueroa was awarded the Compassion Award. Officer Figueroa was given this award for her actions as an officer serving on the WPD Mental Health Evaluation Team (MET), where she provided great care and service to an individual who was gravely ill and in crisis.

The Whittier Police Department is extremely proud of Officer Figueroa and her partner, DMH Clinician Dominic Sermeno, for the hard work they do on a daily basis to help the vulnerable individuals in the communities of Whittier and Santa Fe Springs.
