SALARY AND BENEFITS

Police Officer Trainee
$4080 per month during the academy
Police Officer Trainee is a civilian position and on probationary status while in the police academy.

The initial salary depends on qualifications. Salary increases are normally granted based on job performance, length of service, and labor market adjustments. All police officers serve a one-year probationary period.

POST PAY
4% Above base for Intermediate POST (up to $6235/mo)
9% Above base for Advanced POST (up to $6535/mo)

EDUCATION PAY (Upon sworn appointment)
2% AA/AS degree 
4% BA/BS degree
5% MA/MS degree

SPECIAL PAY
7% Above base for Corporal pay
5% Above base for Motor pay
5% Above base for Detective pay
4% Above base for Admin, POP, K-9, SET, FTO, SRO, Bike Team, Traffic &
     Whittwood Officer

BILINGUAL PAY
(Upon sworn appointment)
$150 per month for Spanish language.

ANNUAL UNIFORM ALLOWANCE
$600 Per year

WORK SCHEDULE
Patrol: 4/10 and 3/12 shifts
Three patrol teams cover Monday-Thursday 4/10 (days, swings, graveyard) with Friday-Sunday Off. Three other patrol teams cover Friday-Saturday 3/12 (days, swings, graveyard) with Monday-Thursday Off.

Inside personnel: 4/10 shifts
Investigations, Traffic, Administration and other specialized units.

RETIREMENT
Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) 3% at 50 Plan, with the Single Highest Year Formula. The 9% employee contribution is fully paid by the City. There is no deduction for Social Security.

HOLIDAYS
10 1/2 days per year.

VACATION LEAVE
10 days per year up to a maximum of 24 days per year after 20 years of service plus credit for prior law enforcement service.

SICK LEAVE
12 days per year plus credit for accrued non-compensated time for prior law enforcement service.

PERSONAL LEAVE
3 days per year may be charged to accrued sick leave. Flexible Benefit Plan Allows employee payment of insurance premiums, medical and dependent care expenses with Pre-Tax dollars, increasing take-home pay.

OTHER BENEFITS
