FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Whittier Police Reserve Officers are an essential unit within our Department. Reserve Officers hold a full time job aside from their work at the department and their time on duty is on a volunteer basis. Reserve officers attend a part time Police academy and receive the same training given to full time officers. While on duty, Reserve Officers have full police powers and work along side full time officers in patrol and specialized assignments.

When you come across a Reserve Officer, you will not notice a difference. Reserves wear the exact same uniform and equipment worn by full time officers and uphold the Whittier Police Department high standards and level of service.

Reserves go through the same hiring procedure as full time officers. From written, oral and psychological tests, to an extensive background investigation, those who pass this difficult process are rewarded with the honor of serving the community in Whittier Police uniforms.
