FOR LATERAL APPLICANTS
The Whittier Police
Department has a long history of regularly hiring
lateral applicants. As a Department that is
largely comprised of lateral transfers from a variety of
agencies, our family culture and diversity will make the

Whittier Police Department a comfortable learning
experience. We value your past experience and

Lateral applicants receive additional starting benefits
to allow for a smooth transition from your previous law
enforcement employer:
- Written and physical aptitude
test will be waived
- Full-time law
enforcement service credit towards vacation accrual
seniority
- Up to 40 hours of sick
time from your previous law enforcement employer
- 40 hours of special
leave to be used throughout your probationary period
