EXPLORERS
The
Law Enforcement Explorers Post is a volunteer program with
the Whittier Police Department. This program allows
young men and women between the ages of 16 and 21 the
opportunity to learn more about the criminal justice
field, while serving their community.
The program is
service oriented. Explorers assist with clerical
assignments, assist with traffic and crowd control, work
alongside Police personnel at community events, and have
the opportunity to ride with officers in the field. The
Whittier Police Explorers also participate in activities
with Explorers from other police departments.
Conferences, sporting events, competitions, and camps
are just a few of their activities.
In order
to be admitted to the program, interested young people
must maintain at least a "C" average in
school, be of good standing in the community, and have
no felony convictions. All Explorers must pass an interview
and background investigation and complete an Explorers
academy (ROP), where they will be taught discipline and
principals of law enforcement.
A Junior
Explorers Program is also available for teens from 12 to 15.
In addition to maintaining good grades, applicants must
pass an interview and complete a five-week, in-house
training program. Junior Explorers assist Police personnel
with clerical assignments and at community events.
If you
would like the opportunity to learn more about law
enforcement and serve your community, please stop by the
Police station to pick up an information packet and an
application. For more information, please contact
